I found little lamplight a good example of how Fallout 3 never quite felt like the place was as far after the nuclear apocalypse as it was supposed to be. Heck, for the best of both worlds, you have a huge 'base area' map like we already do, side maps as we already do once DLC is in the mix, and then an overworld map system to tie the two together.
What I'd love is a mix- a big world map, but the accessible portions are done like the Capital or Mojave Wastelands, just smaller.īasically a bunch of stuff like Point Lookout or Zion or Adams AFB or the Pitt, accessible via an overworld map. The old system didn't have an accurate scale either, but I know what you mean. Also makes for a accurate scale through the map.Īnd the reasons regarding not including vehicles was always (except for Fallout 1 where it could be explained away with the short time since the war) more on the technical than story side. I may be getting hate for this but I'd rather they go away from open world to the old system. The whole reason for Fast Travel in the first place is because wasting time just walking or riding to places is a pretty dull and boring timesink. I can understand why they didn't make the scale bigger, though.
